You know that feeling you get sometimes when you listen to a song, or read a book, or see a movie which blows your mind. And after it you simply know that piece of art has really touched you? Mostly when you see a (film/book/song) you think yeah thats ok - but its rare when it gives you that special feeling. Amelie gave it to me. So did The Virgin Suicides - these are not the only ones, but just a few.
Sometimes I long for that feeling. You cant make it happen.. normally it hits you when you dont expect it.. sort of like love I spose. But I know that at times I want to watch a movie where at the end of it I have that feeling.. where it has blown my socks off.. I wish all movies were like that (really I dont, because it would take away the specialness of 'that' feeling) - rather then the normal feeling I get when I watch a standard film. Thats not to say I dont like normal standard films.. I do.. but those ones that touch you are special. I like that.
So sitting at home the other night looking from the movie collection of 'unseen' movies, I wanted something that would come close to giving me that special feeling. Spiderman2 just wasnt going to do it. But then I spied a movie which my mate Rusty had recommended to me ages ago.. which I had thrown onto video but never watched it.. so I put it on.
Run Lola Run. What a fantastic movie.. I loved it.. it gave me the thrill and it was just what I was looking for. If you havent seen it, then see it.. its worth it..
