One week down the far south coast for a boys fishing trip... I know. But is what blokes do isnt it?
November 2003 Archives
Did someone throw the world into a huge time machine or what? How 80's has this year been so far.. the reunion of Duran Duran, look at all of the 80's fashion hitting the streets.. and all of these other 80's mega stars touring our part of the planet..
Echo and the Bunnymen the other night, and last night I managed to see:
1927, Mondo Rock, Go West, Belinda Carlisle, Paul Young, Kim Wilde and The Human League! What a show.
Lets forget the Australia 80's has beens 1927 and Mondo Rock - although I must say that I was impressed with Mondo Rock - not having really liked them at all in their time, they were good last night. But they could have picked some better Aussie bands for the support, like Psuedo Echo.. :)
Overall what a great show! The only real disappointment was Paul Young who, I must say has lost his voice.. poor soul. The highlight was by far Kim Wilde! How hot was she? Not only was she the best performer on the night (imho) but for someone who is 42 years old... she still has it.. and she knows how to look and dress sexy without going over the top.. Christina Aguilera I hope you are reading this and take note :)
The Human League were fantastic too!! Although whilst I knew all of the songs that they played, they did play some earlier stuff which many people wouldnt have known and I think that may have put some of the audience off..
Overall I was very impressed with the show.. I really didnt think it was going to be that good.. I sound like an old fuddy duddy now, but it really was as if these performances hadnt missed a beat.. they were as great sounding and looking as they all were back in 1985. Except for poor Paul.
Two thumbs up!
Strong Rumours are abound that Duran Duran will be playing a solo Sydney show.. whilst the date is yet to be confirmed, it appears it will probably be the 12th Dec (B-Day +2) - which is the same night that I am meant to be going to see Lloyd Cole! Grr! The rumour is that Duran will play the Enmore.. god knows how I'm going to ensure that I get tickets! The Melbourne solo show sold out in 10 minutes flat, with over 1,000 lined up at the booking office.
To make matters worse Im off on a weeks holiday down south at the end of this week.. so knowing my luck the tickets will go on sale the minute I leave for my fishing trip! Typical, I wait 20+ years to see these guys and I will probably miss out on a ticket.. typical!
The woes of a tormented Duranie..
About a year or so ago, several of my friends reported that the last tour that Echo and the Bunnymen did was quite special. Saying that the show was fantastic and well worth seeing. Taking note of this - and being a bit of a fan, I arranged to grab tickets to one of the shows that they annouced for their current 2003 tour. The show was last night. What a disappointment!
I arranged to meet my mate Anthony out the front of the venue - as he had my ticket. As I was waiting for him, who should appear at the door - trying to get in - none other then Mr Ian McCulloch himself. And might I add - he was off his dial.
The security on the door wouldnt let him in, because of course he didnt have a ticket - and he kept saying, but Im with the band.. you remember me.. the security told him to go around to the stage door around the side, but he still wanted to get in via the main entry.. it wasnt until the blonde he was with pulled him away that he figured out what he was meant to do..
I told my mate Anthony about it.. and he didnt believe me.. that was until the show started, it wasnt the best show we have seen. Ian spoke gibberish all night long.. ranting on about something - which no one could understand, threw his mike stand at the bass player and then refused to sing - stopping songs twice - until the mike stand was repaired.. and then stopping a song another time because something in the crowd was cheering too loud!
Echo and the dunnymen if you ask me!
