A while back I was approached (via email) by an author (from the USA I believe) who was interested in using one of my photographs (actually my wife correctly points out that it was actually her image!) on the cover of her book. Wow! What an honour I thought - it made my day, week, month and probably my year.
The author, Nicki Richesin, stumbled across my image which looking for suitable images on Flicker. Nicki's book, "What I Would Tell Her" is an anthology of stories from fathers to their daughters - hence the title "What I Would Tell Her". Unfortunately (for me), the author and their publisher decided to go with a different image for the book - which has now been released - nonetheless, Nicki has taken the liberty of promoting my photography as part of her own promotions for her book - and I thank her for that. So if you are wondering what to buy your dad for his next father's day present - could I recommend you get him a copy of Nicki's book.
This is the image that Nicki considered using..
"Of Crime and Passion" Duran Duran
Why did you let me run,
When you knew I'd fall for the gaping hole -
Where your heart should be?
Liar - couldn't cut me deeper with a knife if you tried -
Just take a look, before you run off and hide, at your victim, arise...
Clouds on you shoulder
Aren't they grazed by the afterglow
How quiet they gather -
When the storm is about to blow -
Oh, oh, now don't look away,
Caught in the crossfire
And it ain't no wind of change
I'm talking of crime and passions rage.
Summer of madness the undertow, dragged me up an alley -
For the blossoming fire on a strangers smile.
Bride of wires - how disguise so easily cracked -
Saw your heart turn spade, this orchids turned to black..
Graze on your shoulder
Like the clouds in the afterglow
How quiet they gather -
When the storm is about to blow -
Oh, oh, now don't look away
Caught in the crossfire
And it ain't no wind of change
I'm talking of crime and passions rage
-
Way down by the shoulder
In the haze of the afterglow
Stranded together -
And the storm's about to blow -
Oh, oh, now don't look away
Caught in the crossfire
And it ain't no wind of change
I'm talking of crime and passions..
Oh, oh now don't look away
Caught in the crossfire
And it ain't no wind of change
I'm talking of crime and passion..
Don't look away
Caught in the crossfire
And if ain't no wind of change
I'm talking of crime and passion...
The great easter egg hunt of 2010..
I had another opportunity to get up before the sun this morning and venture out with the camera for some sun rise shots - which doesnt happen very often. This time I headed down to Turimetta Beach at Narrabeen for some early morning beach shots, meeting up with some fellow 'togs from an online photography forum. It was quite overcast and hazy and unfortunately it was a less then spectacular morning. But there were some ok shots.
Its been years since I have been able to get up at Dawn and so some landscape photography. In fact its been years since I have done any form of landscape photography. You see the best and really only time for landscape is at dawn or dusk - during whats called 'Blue' and 'golden' hours - those times when the sun is just below the horizon.
Having to small kids just means that its not possible to get out of the house at that house anymore. Maybe when they are older this will change. Anyway, the other morning was on such morning when I was able to escape early as the kids (or at least the eldest one) was staying with relatives for the night.
Fighting the urge to use the kid free time to enable me to have a sleep it... I headed to Bronte Beach - which just happens to be my favourite beach in Sydney.. and this is the result.
Its quite amazing to look at my little girl and consider that she is now three years old. Where has the time gone? I have often heard of others telling me to cherish the moment as they grow up ever so quickly. But until you witness it yourself you never really understand what they are talking about.
The beauty of photography though is, that we will be forever young.
Willow said "Dor-a" today. It was quite a clear "Dora" too.. Dora was on TV this morning and we were getting ready for work and she just came out with it. She hasnt really said any other words before, apart from the "dada" and "mumma" sort of thing. So I guess Dora is officially her first word. Of course she wouldnt repeat it when we said it back to her.
Recently we celebrated Romilly's 3rd birthday.. here is Willow enjoying some of the cake..
On a recent holiday to Batemans Bay..
Today WIllow "technically" started to crawl.. not the most efficient of crawls but a crawl all the same.. well done Willow :)
Romilly understands that 'yesterday' is in the past - but as far as she is concerned it means any time in the past and not just the immediate day before today. So she often will say "remember yesterday.." when infact its a few weeks ago that she is remembering. I like this :)
